Garden To Table - In The Kitchen & Recipes

In the "Table" segment of the Garden to Table (GTT) program, students engage in culinary activities, working alongside either Willa or Karla to enhance their kitchen skills and develop a deeper understanding of food preparation. The core objective of this component is to utilise the vegetables cultivated from the program's own garden, integrating fresh, homegrown produce into the cooking process.

Under the guidance of either Willa or Karla, students embark on an experiential journey within the kitchen. They learn various culinary techniques, such as chopping, slicing, dicing, and cooking methods suited to the particular vegetables harvested from the garden. Each session is designed to be hands-on, encouraging students to actively participate in the food preparation process.

The emphasis on using homegrown vegetables instills a sense of connection to the natural cycle of food production and consumption. Students gain an appreciation for the effort and care involved in growing the produce they use, fostering a deeper understanding of sustainable food practices.

Willa or Karla work closely with the students, not only teaching culinary skills but also imparting knowledge about nutrition, food safety, and the importance of a balanced diet. Their guidance ensures that the students not only learn to cook but also comprehend the significance of making healthy and sustainable food choices.

Ultimately, the "Table" component of GTT serves as a platform for students to actively engage with food, from its initial stages of cultivation in the garden to its transformation into delicious and nutritious meals in the kitchen.
