Fruitvale School staff are dedicated to raising the achievement of your child. We are a group of professionals that in partnership with you work to make your child's and your own learning experience the best it can be. We are committed to ongoing professional development in all areas of the curriculum and usually in any one year are focused on improving our practice in one or other of the eight curriculum areas or getting more versatile using one of any number of the systems that a school uses to best deliver and build a living curriculum.

Donal McLean

PrincipalI want Fruitvale to be known for the producing students that achieve academically and who also know the benefits of a clear set of values, experiences they can reflect on and apply, and opportunities that open them to the greater community of their neighbourhood, region and the world. I am always happy to meet with parents and discuss what we do at Fruitvale, how we can be better at what we do, how we can incorporate new thinking or extend and deepen traditional ways of learning. I am proud of the BOT, staff and pupils at Fruitvale and look forward to meeting you and your child.

Hine Viskovich

Deputy PrincipalKia ora! My name is Hine Viskovich, I am proud to be the Deputy Principal at Fruitvale School. I lead the senior syndicate, the kapahaka group, and coordinate all the cultural groups that our parents tutor, as well. I am passionate about literacy, and work in most classes each week, supporting the writing programme and implementing ESOL strategies in classrooms. We have wonderful parent groups at our school, I work alongside them regularly to ensure that our students and their families are valued, participate and can share ideas about the learning we do at Fruitvale School. I value the community that Fruitvale is part of, and would like any opportunity to talk to all about our school, the exciting learning opportunities we offer, and how we can work together to achieve more for our students.

Alan Bird

Room 8 teacherKia ora. My name is Alan Bird. I have been here for many years and stayed because I enjoy the children and parents from this community. The school is progressive and well-resourced. I enjoy the friendship and collegial support of the staff. Working collegially with the other high calibre staff is another reason for wanting to stay at Fruitvale. I am now even enjoying teaching the sons of daughters of previous pupils. That really makes me sound ancient! I look forward to teaching your children in the future.
